47 Hours of Interrogation

What Made the Osundairo Brothers Suddenly Claim a Hoax After 47 Hours of Interrogation?

The Osundairo brothers were taken into police custody on Feb. 13. They were held/interrogated for 47 hours and only claimed to not have any knowledge about the attack on Jussie Smollett. Once the 48th hour came, they would have to either be charged with a crime or released from police custody. During these 47 hours, CPD contacted Smollett and asked him to come in and sign a criminal complaint against the brothers.

After arriving, Smollett asked if they would show him the evidence against the Osundairo brothers showing they attacked him. CPD said they couldn’t show Smollett any evidence so Jussie decided not to sign the complaint against them. Somehow this has been twisted to suggest they were all in on it together and Smollett didn’t want his friends to go down when in reality why would he sign a complaint against anyone when zero evidence was shown to him?

So right before reaching this 48th hour, the brothers suddenly change their stories and claim Smollett planned the whole thing. What changed their mind? Well, during the discussion between Smollett and CPD about the criminal complaint and lack of evidence, the brothers were consulting with their attorney, Gloria Schmidt, and after that consultation the brothers first claimed that they were actually involved in the attack and the attack was a hoax. In August 2020, we found out there’s a tape that shows Schmidt coaching Ola Osundairo on what to say during this time. It’s safe to say coaching wouldn’t be necessary if the claims made during that time were just honestly recounting what happened.

The media was already reporting on “leaks” from CPD “sources” that Smollett was turning into a suspect by the time this 47th hour came around so you wonder if CPD were the one’s pushing this story to Schmidt and her clients or if it was just a convenient narrative to use since it was already being accepted by some of the general public due to the media reports at that time. But then again people were also subliminally questioning every aspect of Smollett’s claims before he was even being looked at as a suspect.

CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson was asked about the sudden change of story on Good Morning America:

We might never know what really happened in that interrogation room but we do know CPD violated protocol when they allowed Ola to be present while Abel was being interviewed. Normally, individuals who are being questioned about the same crime must be interviewed separately. This gave the brothers an opportunity to hear the other’s statements which seems like a problem if you’re trying to get to the truth rather than a certain narrative.

We also know that the whole case rests on “evidence” that is only evidence against Smollett if the Osundairo brothers’ claims are true. So the entire case essentially rests on statements that were only given when there was a chance they would have been charged for attacking Smollett and after protocol was violated that allowed them to corroborate their statements with each other and be coached by their attorney.
